Dr. Hite's Presentation to the PGTAG Annual Meeting

On October 22, 2007, Dr. Hite, PGCPS Deputy Superintendent, gave this
presentation to PGTAG members at the Annual Meeting.   In addition, he
stated that eight new positions have been posted that will dual report to the
TAG Office and the Office of Curriculum and Instruction and will be the
responsibility of the TAG Office.

FY08 TAG Budget

The FY08 Budget includes an additional $1 million for TAG education.
This brings us back to the budget level available in 2002.  Some of this
money will be given to schools and over half will be given to the TAG
Office.  It has not yet been decided what resources these funds will provide.
The County has approved the budget, however, there is still the likelihood
that PGCPS will have to cut $30 million from the budget if the State does
not provide the Geographic Cost of Education Index (GCEI).  The State has
never funded this part of Thornton's Bridge to Excellence so future cuts are
likely.  We will have to be vigilant to make sure this stays in the budget.
