Board of Education Candidate Views on TAG

The Board of Education Candidates were asked for their responses to the
following two questions:

1. In the last two years, an estimated 1,800 talented and gifted (TAG)
students have withdrawn from our county's school system. Their families
either moved to another county or enrolled their children in private school,
often citing a lack of options for their TAG students as they move beyond the
elementary grades.  What, if any, changes would you make that could help
reverse this unfortunate abandonment of the county schools by the parents of
rising middle schoolers?

2. In the current environment where No Child Left Behind and closing the
Achievement Gap are given such overwhelming deference, please now give
us your strongest argument in favor of committing resources to building and
maintaining a top-notch TAG program in the county?
